PAYE versus SAYE By SOLA ADESAKIN FCA FCCA CPA MBA

Ever heard of P.A.Y.E before? I bet you have!

It's an acronym for "Pay As You Earn"; a tax deducted at source by employers from employees before their salaries get to them eventually. You don't even get to see or touch the money, it's taken right from source.

Has it ever occurred to you that more than half of what you earn goes to other people?

You pay Bills

Service providers get their cut of your income ( Cable, Telephone, Internet)
You pay Rent ( or land use charges if you are a land or house owner)
School fees for your children
Subscriptions ( Gym, Medicals etc)

The list goes on and on. Have you ever sat down to wonder how much of your Income comes to you?

What is the reward you get for getting up so early to work and back?

These bills do not have your best interest at heart!

I advise you begin to SAYE!

Save-As-You-Earn!

Pay yourself! Yes, automate your monthly savings just like your Taxes are automated and directly removed from your salary to the coffers of the government.

Work with whatever works for you: 10%, 20%, 30%.

Give a standing order to your bank to withdraw and send it to a savings scheme or investment account once your salary lands! You can invest in Mutual Funds, in Treasury bills and all.

Grow it and let the power of compound interest set it! That is one of the best ways you can prepare for your financial future.

Did that sound so hard? No just being passionate about your finances.

Take the bull by the horn and get started already!

And yes!
